Certainty does not exist in this world. Yes feels so pleasant to take, but it simply is not there. People like the idea of having as the stability of a job, as it provides a sense of security in all paycheck. They always ignored the fact that demand professional relies heavily on the performance of employers, or put their lives at the mercy of local economies.
Conventional "wisdom" then pushes the idea of fate determine the winners of losers in life, mathematical beg to differ. Most of the individual events occur with arbitrary results; collectively, respectable forecasts have become possible.
E.g. is impossible to predict how long it takes each one atomic nucleus to lose energy, or experience "radioactive". But studied collectively, periods of half-life of groups of them remain stable. This makes the outcome predictable. Ironic, is not it?
Finding and exploiting in order to randomness has served many models for business and for centuries, apparently more in the lottery scheme, casinos, and financial markets. The minds behind these industries to games in deterministic ways.
The sole purpose of serving them to extract the public ignorant of wealth, hence the veil of mystique.
